The unique advantages of the Phoenix forging hammers

The Phoenix hammers offer several unique and major advantages over any other hammers available to the blacksmithing community.

Please read below for more details:

A close up view of the incredible stroke of the Phoenix hammers in action

The first and most obvious advantage of the Phoenix hammers is the stroke. All of the Phoenix hammers have an 11.5 inch stroke standard, and you can actually strike 8" or more of material. No other hammerfor sale allows this freedom of use.

Another advantage is the size of the dies, a 3-1/2" x 5" flat die face comes standard on all Phoenix hammers, and this can be expanded up to 12" x 14" for specialized applications. Also, all or our dies are made from H-13 tool steel, which is the absolutely toughest forging die material available. The dies can be rotated at any time during use to four different positions, which is also very handy, and no other hammer for sale has a die arrangement that is this versatile.

Another completely unique advantage is the ability to strike single blows of exactly consistent speed and force. No other hammer for sale in the world has the ability to do this. This feature is useful for many types of operations, particularly with chasing, chiseling and surface decorations, where single, intentional, and consistent blows are crucial for advanced work. This function is simply not possible with any of the other hammers available for sale. If you can imagine having a human striker with a 150 lb. hammer in his hand, who can just come down and touch the work, or strike with full force, or ANY strength of blow in between, exactly the same, over and over and over again, (and who never misses), you can begin to imagine the usefulness of this feature.

Another advantage is the clamping feature, On the 150 lb. hammers, you can clamp and twist a full turn in 1" square bar if it is good and hot, and use the clamping for projects like the door handle. On the 100 lb. hammer, the clamping force is less due to the smaller cylinder, so twisting capability is limited, but the holding feature is adequate.

Another advantage is that it is very easy for you to make your own specialized dies, (in addition to the 25 or 30 standard styles that we can make).

The Phoenix 150(A) has a 150 lb. ram and a 2,800 LB anvil, which produces an 18.6:1 anvil/ram ratio, which is the highest that I am aware of any currently available hammer. This hammer can easily forge right through 3" diameter bar, as you will see in the video, and this power is a function of the mass of the anvil as well as the long stroke.
